Roosters Griffions sold me a dog and promised AKC paper work. That was 5 years ago. He has no paper work and will not answer calls! Gates is a Liar!

First of all to go along with the comment above from Mark, we were scammed by this guy. In January we put a 300.00 deposit on a litter that was not born yet and due March 15th, 2011. Of coarse it was a false pregnancy and he said he doesn’t take his puppies to the vet because the vet is awful. The “next” litter was due in April. Hmm…guess what that was false too! He wrote us and said that he he did not have the money to pay us back all at once. He was no the verge of being bankrupt. He sent us $100.00 dollars back 3 month ago and will not return my calls. I refuse to give this man any of my money. I called the Amercian Association of Wirehaired pointing griffons. I spoke with the Vice president (who is located in Montana) He said that he had never heard of him but would call a breeder friend of his in MI. He called me back later that night and said “DO NOT GET A DOG FROM HIM” His dogs are overbred and can NOT even get AKC certified because there is no proof of breeding lines and they are over bred!!

We are going to take him to small claims court even if I have to pay 200.00 to do it to get my 200.00 back!!!!!!

So Mark, that is why you can not get your papers!

We went with a wonderful new breeder in Ohio. She gave us the AKC paper work when we picked them up!

HE is a LIAR AND SCAMMER. DO NOT GIVE HIM MONEY OR WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!!

    Jaimee,
Read your email on ROOSTER-Richard Gates. I have been trying to reach him for the last week. I’ve called as well as emailed. No response. The reason for contacting him is because 15 years ago I bought a Grif from him and my best buddy died July 2nd so I am in the market for a new Griffon. Fifteen years ago there was talk of his kennel being a puppy farm. I was going to buy a Grif from outstate breeders since Rooster was just about the only breeder in Mich. After talking with people who have bought dogs from Gates and all said he is a little different, but his dogs were great, I decided to buy a dog from him. I was suppose to get the pick of the litter from a litter in Feb., but all the pups died. We waited for a litter in the spring. Our pup came from a litter of 4. Needless to say, he was the best dog I have ever had. The only thing I didn’t like was Gates did not have the dew claws removed. This is line with Gates does not like Vets. Well, I’m not sure what I’m going to do now. Your comments on Gates does not help, plus he has not returned any calls. I guess I’ll start researching another breeder. I will say “GRIFFON”S ARE THE BEST”

    Hi Donald,

I called him in December and never heard of a puppy litter in Feb. When I spoke with the AWPGA that said that more than 2-3 litters a year is not good. According to him that would be 4 in six months. Not sure how many dogs he has but that is not possible. We found our breeder on puppy find (which you have to be careful of too.) We went to these peoples home and could tell that it was not a puppy mill 🙂 Also look on this websitehttp://awpga.com/. I also called and they were very helpful and STRONGLY RECCOMMENDED not going through him. I think he is hard up for money and just plain old scamming now! Sorry and good luck 🙂 Jaimee

We looked Mr. Gates up this evening thinking we would call him to tell him how much we are enjoying the puppy we bought from him 14 years ago. He gave us the papers and she was a wonderful puppy and is now a wonderful old dog. We were surprised to find address comments about Mr. Gates

We spoke with Mr. Gates right after we got our puppy and a few years later to tell him how much we were enjoying her. He was very pleasant and attentive. I haven’t spoken to him in probably 10 years.

We don’t know what has transpired subsequently except we surmise, that given his past history of being a very honest person and good breeder, he may now not be well and that may be the reason for his odd behavior.

Finally I am seeing comments about Richard Gates, the “scam” artist. I also lost the $300.00 deposit and of course he never did follow through on his promise to pay the deposit back at $25.00 a month. He was bold enough to tell me that there were five other people that weren’t going to get their money back either.. I went to his house, but to no avail. The place is an absolute pig sty. Even if he had the dogs, it wasn’t a fit place for them to live. My experience with Gates took place in 2010.

Amazing…. I thought we were the only ones scammed by Richard…. Our Heidi was an amazing hunter and pet we got her from Richard 18 years ago. When she was gone we sent Richard 300 for a new puppy. Same result as Donald above. After numerous calls and emails I am counting that as a complete loss. How sad that he has scammed so many and has no repercussion Richard, if you read these I can only say I do not know how you live with yourself !
