It has come to our attention that there is a less then reputable breeder in your midst. We have no monetary interest in helping bring this out in the light of day. It is DJ Kennels by Donna Jackson in Sardinia Ohio. Our interest is purely from the heartache it brought to see these poor animals being advertised for sale. The differences between a reputable breeder and disreputable breeder are easy to see on her web site or advertisements if one knows what to look for:
On her site we could not find any health testing, pedigrees of the dogs she claims are purebred or anything that relates to the standards of each breed. She breeds Corgis, Aussies & Cavaliers as well as brags about Cava-Corgis.
She claims on her site that she has over 45 acres where the dogs have plenty of room to roam, play and swim. Yet in an ad she claims the adult dogs are let out at least twice a day. Which is it? The pictures of each breed are very limited, giving no feeling what so ever of how the animals are treated and cared for. There is one picture of a young dog who looks ill formed as though it can’t stand…. it is unknown just how many dogs she may be harboring and breeding under what conditions! And she appears to be mixing breeds and claiming they can be registered as purebred dogs. There is no such breed as a Cava-Corgi this is a “Designer” dog, she alludes to the fact that they can be registered with AKC & ACHC but forgets to mention that this does not mean they are purebred only companion registration, if meeting certain guidelines, allows them to compete in certain events. Also what is not mentioned is that 80% of “Designer” dogs end up in shelters or abandoned. To say nothing for the concern of pedigree, health or temperament of such dogs.
We don’t know how many dogs of how many breeds in what kind of condition or under what inspection? The dogs she is advertising for sale are OBVIOUSLY underweight and ill looking with evidence of improper care i.e. filthy with overgrown nails, were born December 29 & she claims will be ready for their homes middle of February at around 6 weeks of age still too young to be taken away from litter mates & mom…etc…. The Corgi puppy known as Freedom on PuppyFind.com she states is very small, when in fact the entire litter is very small not to mention sickly looking. But by her own admission Freedom has been struggling to survive but is up for sale. States that there is a health guarantee, Veterinarian examination but once on her site no way to inspect these claims. In fact you have to go to a private email as you cannot contact her through her own site. This is why so many organizations are proposing so many bills to crack down on breeders such as this. But the ones that are reputable, follow the rules are the ones that these bills hurt the most. While those of questionable character continue on in just the manner described.
As opposed to the many reputable breeders who give information at the ready, references from previous buyers, name of veterinarian or at least a phone number, their contracts for buyers, pedigrees listed and of course pictures of all dogs. Before any of this though the reputable breeder has gone to not only great expense but also invested their time and energy into extensively researching genetic predispositions of a breed, food, testing for any health problems, personalities, breed standards. They also don’t sell to the first person with the money, they will educate a potential buyer, get to know them, their life style and personality to ensure a good match of person to pup.
This is just a small part of what reputable breeders go through and offer to those of us who want healthy, happy, properly matched dogs to become a part of our families.

This is shameful that this goes on behind the scenes and under the radar… we hope to bring public awareness of this atrocious animal handling and bring into play whatever authorities may regulate such abuse of animals…. by bringing to your attention in hopes of letting the public beware….take notice and bring this to light.
In closing there is a very fine line between puppy mill and backyard breeder but the one thing they have in common is the bottom line, just how many puppies can I make and most important how much money can I get.

Rude, you don’t now this breeder. I have bought 2 corgis from her both with papers and healthy. They are all vet checked and up to date (I go to the same vet, we actually found her from our vets office ) She also has a corgi that she has even cared for through cancer treatments– I would think someone who doesn’t care and just wants to make money would have just had the dog put to sleep– The outside dogs do have plenty of room to run and shelter. Yes the inside dogs–mommies and puppies and those she has inside get let out and are not cooped up at all times so they get fresh air. Just because you have to send a private email doesn’t make her a bad person it means someone is not the greatest with technology, when you call or email you can receive these details. Also I believe she states that the cava-corgi “pups aren’t eligible for some things with AKC such as confirmation” & there are so many ‘designer’ pups out there, where did you get the 80% end up in shelters?? Muts maybe but paid for ‘designer’ pups I don’t know about that. Also another fact I know puppies don’t leave there mom’s until 8 weeks of age, come with info on puppies, tips for puppies, contact info, sample of food so they new owner can mix with new food so puppy can adjust, PAPERS, and a health info tracker so new owner can keep up with shots. Maybe you should get to know someone before you are so quick to judge.

We bought a Corgi from Donna 4 1/2 years ago and he is a wonderful, loveable, and friendly dog. She never had any locked up when we went to pick out a dog and they were all taken care of. We are looking to get another dog and she is my first pick of who to contact. Some people just aren’t into computers or want all of their personal information exposed for all to see.

I had my 13 year old little girl shipped to CA from Donna and Donna was absolutely amazing through the whole thing. I agree with the comments #2 and #3. We had such a good experience with her that my mother, also in CA, got two brothers from her from the first accidental “Shorgi” litter and they are wonderful! That was almost 10 years ago! Donna only has love for these dogs and wants to be sure that the animals go to great homes.

We bought a cava-corgi from her and he was very well taken care of, up to date on his shots, and is now my best friend! Great breeder! Great person!

I had a great experience with Donna. I live in Ca and I wanted a Corgi but fell in love with the Shorgi puppy photo. That was 8 years ago and I absolutely have no regrets. Donna is caring she fought from her home with the airline when she believed they had mislead me. She had the folks at LAX jumping through hoops to get my puppy to me. She didn’t have to, she had her payment and the dog was here in Ca her part was done. My dog is one of the sweetest dogs ever. I am now looking to add another dog to our family and I will be contacting Donna–yes through her private email!

Unfair assessment of Donna Jackson. The person who wrote the original post clearly has not meet Donna, seen her farm or met her dogs. I have a cava-corgi from Donna and she had always been a healthy, well socialized, lovely dog. I drove from NH to pick her up and Donna even drove 3 hours (6 round trip) to meet me and shorten my trip. When I got home and my parents saw my beautiful puppy they immediately drove to Donnas farm to pick up her sister.

I wouldn’t hesitate to get another puppy from Donna. In fact, she would be our first choice when the time comes.

I would encourage anyone looking at Donna’s dogs to feel comfortable with her as a breeder. My pup was in her first litter of cava-corgi and I have been encouraging her to continue breeding this lovely hybrid.

We bought a Shorgi from Donna 5 years ago. He is a joy to us. Although he does have anxiety. I am not sure if he was socialized too much but when i dealt with Donna she did not hide anything and met us in Pittsburgh to shorten our drive.

I bought a corgi from Donna four years ago and he is a happy and healthy boy. I would recommend Donna and plan on going back to her when I’m ready for a second dog.

We just bought a corgi from donna, he is great! She was very upfront with us about everything. He has a small umbilical hernia and that was the very first thing she told me when I called about him. She gave us his pedigree and akc papers. I don’t know why you are throwing these wild accusations around. Sometimes I think you “dog people” are the snottiest people I’ve met. Just because her website isn’t professionally done doesn’t mean anything. Since we’re throwing wild accusations around with no support, maybe you are bad mouthing her because she sells her dogs for a reasonable price, and you can’t compete with her.

I got my Jewel from Donna about five years ago. Jewel is my best buddy and she is also a registered Therapy Dog and visits with Veterans in Charlotte VA center. She also goes to several nursing homes, a hospice center and schools.
She is an amazing pup that brings great medicine to all she meets for the last four years. Donna does a great job with her pups and does care about them.
I wouldn’t hesitate recommending her to someone looking for a furry baby.

I too have one of Donna Jackson’s puppies. A beautiful Australian shepherd that is nearly 11 years old. I was able to pick my puppy up from Donna the day she turned 8 weeks old and no sooner. I received akc registration paperwork and she even offered dna from my pup’s father to be registered with ASCA. She was quite knowledgable about the breed and included the info another buyer mentioned above. The pups were clean and housed in a heated and new building attached to her home; which is set on a large farm. I was able to meet both parents of my pup and the majority of her littermates. Donna had additional litters in her home, not Aussies, but corgi pups and shorgis at the time and other than the surrounding areas being somewhat cluttered, the pups were housed well with their mothers. The clutter was actually indicative of Donna’s commitment to her breeding since she is an older woman who manages her breeding program and a farm without the help of a staff.
She has had a number of websites advertising her pups over the years only bc she had trouble with the technology of them and couldn’t find a site she was pleased with that worked for her. I still have perfect pictures of my Aussie at 7 weeks before she came home; something I’ve received from other breeders I’ve received puppies from that have more time & resources to dedicate to their breeding program advertising. In fact I have a border collie puppy from one of the most successful conformation BC kennels that has existed through at least 3 generations. My experience with getting a pup from Donna was comparable to this more “famous” breeder.
My Aussie has been one of the best dogs ever and was a therapy dog when she was younger too. She has no history of health problems or faults you may see in an Aussie bred by an irresponsible breeder and she is a blue Merle. Anyone who knows there dog breeding, knows that if you whelp a Merle dog irresponsibly you are guaranteed to have health problems in a certain percentage of the litter. The other pups in my Aussies litter were all healthy and if there were any left available at the time I received my pup, it would have been hard to walk away with only one.
Furthermore, a good friend of mine fell so in love with my Aussie and her representation of the breed, she acquired an Aussie pup from Donna just a few years ago. I’m happy to report that Donna was still located in the same place and my pups father was even still on site when I took my friend to visit. Her mother had passed away and Donna was able to relay the details. Cancer in older age. Not shocking. My friend received her Aussie who had my pups father in her bloodline; the pedigree she received from Donna along with akc registration materials etc.
There were additional kennels on the farm that Donna had obviously added since I bought my Aussie in 2005. And since it was summer time, as we pulled up on her property, we were greeted by Donna and some corgis and the 2 Aussie pups she had available. The dogs were happy, healthy and having a great time. They responded to Donna’s commands and I had absolutely no concerns about the state of her dogs or pups. Donna is a down to earth person who charges reasonable fees for her dogs that are not lucrative in any manner.
I am pleased to say that my friend has been as happy with her Aussie as my family has been with ours. I will continue to refer others to Donna for pups and regret to find this sort of info on the web about Donna from such an obvious disreputable dog owner. It’s unfortunate the original writer had only enough time to search the web rather than actually gain real life experience with Donna Jackson as a breeder, before putting such hateful and wrong information out there. I’d qualify that as disreputable!
Thank you to Donna for the wonderful Aussie I’ve had as a family member for almost 11 years. I could not have received a better specimen of the breed from anyone else.

I have only positive things to say about Donna! I bought an Australian shepherd from her and could’t be happier. My pup was in a great condition when she arrived: healthy, fluffy, and friendly. All the papers were in place as well. Donna had to ship my pup, so she had to do a lot of extra work to get my aussie to me, and she was able to do it all without delays. I totally recommend Donna to anyone who wants to get an aussie or any other other breed.

Well, I’m not sure where the first poster on this thread (“W”) got her information from because her description of Donna does not reflect my memories of my interaction with Donna. Nor does it appear to jive with the recollections of others on this thread.

I met Donna when I was looking for a corgi puppy in February of 200. After exhausting all available avenues in the state of Michigan where all of the breeders I contacted would not sell us a puppy unless we agreed to show the dog, I began to look elsewhere as we wanted a companion god not a show dog. After an internet search, I located Donna and contacted her. She was most gracious on the phone and equally as gracious as a hostess when I arrived at her place after a five hour drive from the Detroit metro area. Her home was clean and all of the puppies had more than enough space to play in, both outside and inside. They were fed high quality puppy food and all of their initial shots/vet visits were current. We fell in love with one of the little males and brought Marty home to Michigan that afternoon. After contributing much joy to our household for 16 and 1/2 years, Marty left us after a brief illness, Once our hearts heal from his passing, we will most assuredly contact Donna to check on the availability of a new corgi pup. Obviously, she is doing something right if Marty had the genes to stay with us for a long as he did. Highly recommended!!

I bought a corgi from Donna 14 yrs ago named Logan. He recently passed away from cancer. He was healthy and a joy all his life. Donna was very nice and responsible throughout. We have stayed in contact all these years. I don’t know where first poster. Is getting information. I purchased a corgi because none were available for adoption where I lived.

RUN – don’t walk – away from this backyard breeder! Her puppies have a plethora of health problems along with terrible temperament. A friend and I each adopted a corgi from one of her litters and both dogs were given to us infested with fleas. The vet visit that evening also showed giardia and skin mites. The dogs are extremely hyper and reactive. I’ve been through 3 private trainers and every single one of them has said they’ve never seen a dog this bad before. The vet said the breeder is terrible. My friend’s vet said the breeder is terrible. The trainers say the breeder is terrible. Do NOT give this woman a dime of your money! I have reported her to the AKC. Shame on you, Donna!

I have a puppy from a litter of Donna’s where Toby was the stud. The dog has a LOT of health and behavioral issues that even our vet and trainers have struggled with. When I talked to Donna about this she admitted Toby was very hyperactive and that she had problems with him. So what did she do? She bred him AGAIN! The puppies were born 6/6/17. This woman needs to be reported and stopped. She has no business breeding dogs.
